We left Jaffa for a quick visit to the valley of Elah. If you're like me, you didn't remember that the valley of Elah is where, most famously, David fought Goliath.

Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah. Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines. The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.
– 1 Samuel 17:1-3 NIV

I really don't have much to report about the valley of Elah. Here are the (admittedly low-quality) photos I took. Remember that I hadn't slept for about 36 hours at this point in the trip.

We also reenacted the fight between David and Goliath using... ahem... "period accurate" props:

That's right, everyone knows that Goliath used a lightsaber and had Captain America's vibranium shield.

For all my west Texan readers out there, I'm afraid you'll find that most of Israel is indistinguishable from the Hill Country where I grew up. I promise I was actually there even though it looks like I just walked around the ranch to take a few pictures ;)
